Compassion Focused Therapy
Compassion is proven to be highly effective in the treatment of shame and self-criticism. This therapy promotes compassionate understanding to help to develop experiences of inner warmth, safeness, and soothing.
We will help you to cultivate qualities such as strength, courage, non-judgement, empathy, patience, and emotional resilience.
Meditation and Mindfulness
We take part in meditation sessions at the local Buddhist Centre once a week. Meditation is proven to improve overall well-being, and it can be particularly effective in early-recovery to enable you to slow down your thoughts and explore the gap between reacting and responding.
Twice a week we partake in Walking Meditation. One session is silent walking through Moseley’s beautiful private park, and another is in the community and consists of meditative walking and a discussion group.
Mindfulness has recently proven to be highly effective in the treatment of addiction, here are some benefits;
promotes healthy state of mind
develops self-acceptance and non-judgement
increases feeling of calmness
separates the individual from the thoughts
heightens tolerance of negative emotions
boosts the immune system
Goals and Observations
This is a peer-led group which involves setting weekly goals to achieve; these goals can be your own or may be suggested by your peers. This group will be an opportunity to monitor your progress with them and begin to achieve.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
We use CBT to identify and correct problematic thinking and behavioural patterns. You will be introduced to specific types of unhelpful thinking and we will use this knowledge to address how each style of thinking has affected your life.
Furthermore we will challenge these types of thinking and provide you with the tools to continue to address unhelpful styles of thinking for yourself.
